Inventory Control Consultancy Services

By having an appreciation of the two complementary services, ETS is able to offer an unparalleled one stop shop for any organisations procurement, inventory and materials management needs.

ETS recognises that every organisation may have the need to review its supply lines and stock management controls from time to time, to ensure they are maximising cash flow, minimising redundant stock and obsolescence as well as ensuring critical lines or spares are always available to meet core business needs.

Controlling a large inventory investment and streamlining parts and equipment storage can be extremely challenging for facilities managers. A critical aspect of these responsibilities is identifying weak points in the inventory management system. Successful inventory management programme's need to be operations-driven, not financially driven and take into account the effective use of the following: assessment, planning, maximum use of procurement strategies and investment recovery (i.e. achieving maximum return on investment).

Whilst the following process can vary depending on the organisation, the main steps will see ETS able to improve your inventory management programme and ensure your organisation has the "right materials, parts and equipment at the right time, at the right price and quality". Each step of the process is interconnected with the other steps and must be managed by the right people as a complete process. These steps are:

• Inventory Assessment which has within it a need to undertake a Root Cause Analysis, Policy and Procedure Review, Demand Pattern Definition, ABC Analysis, Inventory Classification Analysis and a Review of the Inventory Tracking System.
• Planning. This will include the formation of the team and setting objectives and goals to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and proficiency of the core business function.
• Maximum Utilisation of Procurement Strategies. One of the main reasons for carrying inventory is to provide time for the procurement cycle to react. Once the procurement cycle is reduced, the safety factor on inventories can be eliminated or lowered, and thereby reducing inventory investment. ETS would consider other procurement strategies, e.g. inventory sharing strategies, vendor maintained inventories, OEM buy-back arrangements, etc. in any assignment or review.
• Investment Recovery. The contribution of investment recovery to a reduction in inventory is twofold: determining the reason for excess inventory through root cause analysis and maximising the return on investment of any surplus. Both of these centre on the establishment of performance measurements, i.e. by identifying the number of items entering the investment recovery process that are a direct result of some of the following factors, e.g. excess inventory, damaged goods, outdated/obsolete, minimum order quantities too high, etc.
